The award was presented to Grayson at CMTA’s Annual Board & Membership Meeting in Palm Springs

Sacramento, Calif. – The California Manufacturers & Technology Association (CMTA) announced today it honored California Assemblymember Tim Grayson, representing Assembly District 15, as the first-ever recipient of the prestigious Legislator of the Year Award.

CMTA presented the award to Asm. Grayson at the organization’s Annual Board & Membership Meeting in Palm Springs on March 28, 2024. This esteemed accolade acknowledges Asm. Grayson’s dedication to championing policies that promote innovation, economic growth, and prosperity within the manufacturing sector.

“Manufacturing serves as the cornerstone of our economy and its vitality is crucial for long-term prosperity,” said CMTA’s President and CEO Lance Hastings. “It’s imperative to have legislators who grasp the significance of this industry. We extend our gratitude to Assemblymember Tim Grayson for his proactive stance in authoring bills aimed at fostering an environment conducive to attracting, retaining, and nurturing manufacturers across the Golden State. We are proud to recognize him as the California Manufacturers & Technology Association’s Legislator of the Year.”

In acknowledging this prestigious honor, Asm. Grayson expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to working tirelessly on behalf of California’s manufacturers and technology innovators.

“Every Californian wins when manufacturing grows, which is why it’s been my honor to partner with CMTA to work to uplift the manufacturing industry” said Asm. Grayson (D-Concord). “I’m humbled by this recognition and look forward to continuing our efforts together to keep manufacturing jobs in our state where they belong.”

“This award underscores Asm. Grayson’s unwavering dedication to promote a positive business climate for our manufacturers,” said Steve Konig, Chairman of the Board of CMTA & Director of Government and Public Affairs, West Region at Marathon Petroleum Corporation. “It was an honor to sit down with Grayson for a fireside chat and present him with this honor.”

CMTA has partnered with Asm. Grayson on several legislative measures, including AB 52, a manufacturing tax credit equal to the local portion of the sales and use tax for purchasing qualified manufacturing and R&D equipment. This measure aligns us with 38 other states who already credit or exempt manufacturing equipment, allowing California manufacturers to continue to innovate and produce at the highest levels.
