Sacramento, Calif. – Governor Newsom has vetoed SB 954, the bill that would have rolled back last year’s CEQA streamlining for advanced manufacturing facilities. A copy of his veto message can be viewed here.
The following is a statement from CMTA President & CEO Lance Hastings:
“With this veto, Gov. Newsom backed ‘Made in California’ with the action that matters most – he protected the ability of manufacturers to innovate and create here in California. Rejecting SB 954 maintains the promise the state made last year when it streamlined CEQA review for advanced manufacturing projects and told companies to build here. That certainty is what turns planned investments into real facilities, real payrolls and real tax revenue for communities across the state. Manufacturing generates $382 billion a year for California and supports 1.24 million good-paying jobs, and today the Governor told the companies behind those numbers that California doesn’t go back on its word. We applaud Gov. Newsom for his leadership, and CMTA will continue to work with lawmakers so that California maintains its position as the nation’s manufacturing leader.”
