Labor & Employment

Fair, reasonable, and competitive labor and employment laws are essential to keeping California’s manufacturing sector strong and globally competitive.
Excessive mandates and one-size-fits-all regulations drive up costs, reduce flexibility, and make it harder for manufacturers to retain and grow jobs in California. As the policy conversation increasingly turns toward artificial intelligence and automation, lawmakers must strike the right balance—protecting workers while encouraging the adoption of new technologies that improve efficiency and safety.
CMTA supports employment policies that:
- Protect workers while allowing employers flexibility to adapt to evolving technologies and workplace needs.
- Encourage collaboration between employers and employees to strengthen safety, productivity, and innovation.
- Maintain a level playing field with other states and global competitors.
- Enable manufacturers to responsibly adopt and integrate new technologies without unnecessary regulatory barriers.
Fair, forward-facing labor and employment policies are essential to both the well-being of California's workforce and the long-term competitiveness of its manufacturing economy.
