Governor Newsom Announces Nearly $100M to Boost California Manufacturing
Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the Office of Business and Economic Development awarded $99.9 million in CalCompetes tax credits to nine companies planning to establish or expand manufacturing operations in the state. The incentives are expected to generate over $370 million in investments and support approximately 2,752 jobs with an average annual salary of $139,000.

Novartis Opens New Manufacturing Plant in California
Novartis, a CMTA board member company, has opened a new 10,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Carlsbad, CA, to produce radioligand therapies. This move is part of the company’s broader $23B U.S. investment plan to expand infrastructure, strengthen domestic supply, and meet growing demand in the western U.S.
Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling Commits $47.5M to LA Facility
CMTA board member company Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling announced a $47.5 million revitalization project at its Downtown Los Angeles facility, marked by a groundbreaking ceremony last month. As the last bottling facility in Los Angeles, Reyes Coca-Cola has continued its commitment to Downtown LA’s ongoing economic and cultural revitalization.

California-Made Spacecraft Begins Mars Mission
CMTA member and ADAC company Rocket Lab, headquartered in California, successfully launched its two Explorer-class spacecraft for NASA and UC Berkeley’s ESCAPADE mission to Mars. Built in California, the spacecraft highlights the state’s advanced aerospace manufacturing capabilities. The mission will study Mars’ magnetosphere, providing insights to support future human exploration.
California Eyes First Large-Scale Mass Timber Manufacturing Site
FABRIC, a Northern California advanced mass timber company, is partnering with WRNS Studio to launch California’s first large-scale mass timber production facility in Redding.
The 200,000-square-foot factory will source timber from forest thinning operations in collaboration with CalFire and the U.S. Forest Service, helping create a local supply chain and reduce wildfire risks. FABRIC and WRNS will also work alongside U.C. Berkeley, Cal Poly, and Shasta College to develop advanced manufacturing training programs for future forest industry leaders.

Federal Judge Blocks California’s Enforcement of Clean Truck Partnership
A federal judge has blocked California’s CARB from enforcing its 2023 Clean Truck Partnership with truck makers. The agreement, part of the Advanced Clean Truck program, aimed to ease emissions rules and promote zero-emission trucks. CARB can still certify vehicles, but manufacturers can keep producing and selling trucks while the case moves forward.
CMTA Raises Concerns Over Costly LA Stormwater Proposal
After CMTA and our industry coalition raised concerns, the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board postponed its scheduled hearing on the draft Commercial, Industrial & Institutional (CII) Permit and will hold a stakeholder workshop instead. This decision is a win for manufacturers, and CMTA will continue to stay engaged as the process moves forward.
