Manufacturing Industry Applauds Senator Toni Atkins' Leadership on Addressing Impacts of Planned Power Shutoffs

CMTA President states: "This cannot be the new normal for California."

Oct. 25, 2019 Sacramento, CA --- Today, the California Manufacturers and Technology Association President and CEO Lance Hastings issued a statement in support of Senate Pro Tempore Toni Atkins announcement to create a working group on the planned power shutoffs that have disrupted hundreds of thousands of people's daily lives.

"We appreciate the leadership of Senator Atkins in quickly addressing the pressing challenges that businesses and all Californians are facing as a result of the planned power shutoffs by the utility companies. The past weeks of planned shutoffs have impacted the safety of residents and businesses with significant costs that have harmed working Californians and their families. We cannot accept that the 'new normal' is turning off the power every time there are high winds. This working group opens a crucial dialogue in prioritizing community safety from wildfires while identifying solutions for power reliability and affordability. We look forward to working on a new solution that keeps all Californians safe with the lights on."
