By CMTA Staff

Capitol Update, Dec. 6, 2013

The California Department of Education, in collaboration with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, the California Workforce Investment Board and the Pathways to Prosperity Network, will be hosting “Pathways to Prosperity” forums throughout the State. They will be held on December 17 in Sacramento, December 18 in Clovis and December 19 in Los Angeles. (See pdf for details)

The purpose is to share strategies on how education and industry can work together to create high-quality career pathway programs aligned with the local and regional needs of business and industry. Topics will include:

·      Developing sustainable collaborations between education agencies and businesses;

·      Creating regional career pathways aligned to local labor market needs;

·      Integrating academic and career-based learning aligned to high-need, high-growth, and emerging regional economic sectors; and

·      Establishing effective work-based learning programs between education agencies and businesses.

California’s manufacturers are in great need of skilled workers. While many of these jobs often require less than a bachelor’s degree, what they do require is a rigorous curriculum that includes core academics and applied learning opportunities. CMTA encourages you to participate in these forums, discuss your particular needs and join forces with agencies and others interested in applying for funds for these purposes.

There are no costs for attendance, but RSVPs are required as space is limited. (See pdf for details)
