Capitol Update, Sept. 9, 2009

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America and the California State Building and Construction Trades Council is holding its third annual golf tournament to benefit the Get REAL coalition (Relevance in Education and Learning) on Monday, October 19 at the Napa Valley Country Club.

Get REAL is  coalition of business, manufacturers, labor, agriculture, public safety, healthcare, child advocates and educators who believe California schools should provide a balanced education that includes challenging academic studies and career technical education for "hands-on" learning.

Members of the Get REAL coalition recently helped pass SB 147, a bill ensuring the recognition of career and technical education by the California State University (CSU), and the group has set its sights on even bigger legislation and public relations activities next year.  Sponsorships at this golf tournament will help the coalition continue its work.
