Policy Director – Government Relations

The California Manufacturers & Technology Association (CMTA) is seeking a Policy Director to represent manufacturing sector interests in State legislative and regulatory agencies. Our ideal candidate for this exempt role will have a diverse blend of professional experience in legislative, political, trade association, or other similar backgrounds.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • 4+ years of government affairs experience with emphasis on legislative, regulatory and/or commercial environment
  •  Subject-matter expertise in energy and/or environment issues preferred
  • Public policy leadership and demonstrated strategic planning
  • Knowledge of manufacturing policy issues
  • Excellent communication, writing and public speaking skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, and legislative tracking systems (training to be provided)

  • Plan and execute strategies related to energy and/or environmental matters that benefit and/or protect manufacturing sector priorities
  • Recommend general policy initiatives that support retention and expansion of manufacturing in California
  • Maintain broad knowledge of key CMTA policy issues
  • Be a team-oriented contributor to the Government Relations function
  • Lead and coordinate Government Relations Committee for all CMTA policy areas
  • Oversee communications to members and public on all issue areas
  • Lobby particular bills and/or regulations as a member of the CMTA lobby team
  • Communicate with and respond to input from CMTA member policy committees
  • Provide regular member updates on key bills and issues
  • Maintain unified CMTA positions and resolve conflicts when possible
  • Elevate policy issues for CMTA Board review and positions as appropriate
  • Comply with all FPPC regulations (Must be a registered lobbyist)

INTERNAL ENGAGEMENT

  • Participate in the policy development and strategy for CMTA
  • Participate in all CMTA planning meetings, board meetings, conferences, etc.
  • Participate in CMTA membership plan development and implementation
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities are subject to change

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must comply with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry
  • This position must possess and maintain a current, valid Drivers License and access to reliable transportation
  • Must be currently eligible to work in the United States
  • Preferred education: Bachelor of Arts degree combined with relevant experience is required
  • Travel requirements: Position may involve occasional travel to in-state destinations

SALARY DOE

$75,000-$90,000

Employees will also be eligible for an annual performance bonus, which is dependent on your individual performance and the financial performance of the organization.
