Position Summary
The California Manufacturers & Technology Association (CMTA) is seeking an experienced, senior-level professional to lead its Government Relations function. This pivotal role will be responsible for the development and execution of legislative and regulatory strategies that advance the organization’s goals and priorities. Ideal candidates will bring a diverse range of experience in areas such as legislative affairs, political strategy, trade association management, or other relevant fields, demonstrating strong leadership capabilities and a deep understanding of the policy landscape.
Required Experience and Skills:
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in government affairs, with a focus on legislative, regulatory, and/or commercial environments.
- Expertise in public policy leadership and strategic planning.
- In-depth knowledge of California’s political landscape.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing policy issues.
- Exceptional communication, writing, and public speaking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and legislative tracking systems (training will be provided as needed).
- Be results-oriented and outcome-driven.
Functional Requirements:
- Serve as a key member of the Association’s leadership team.
- Lead the Government Relations function with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- Develop and implement strategies to advance manufacturing-related issues that protect and promote the interests of CMTA members.
- Identify and advocate for policy initiatives that foster the retention and expansion of manufacturing in California.
- Stay well-informed on key CMTA policy issues and developments.
- Oversee communications related to policy issues for both members and the public.
- Maintain consistent and unified CMTA policy positions, resolving conflicts where feasible.
- Elevate relevant policy issues to the CMTA Board for review and action as needed.
- Ensure full compliance with all FPPC regulations (must be a registered lobbyist).
Internal Engagement:
- Report directly to and provide strategic advice to the President of CMTA.
- Contribute to the overall strategic development of CMTA.
- Lead the formulation of policy and political strategy for the Association.
- Participate in all key CMTA events, including planning meetings, board meetings, and conferences.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Office Setting: A climate-controlled, indoor environment with access to basic office equipment such as desks, chairs, computers, phones, and printers.
- Lighting: Fluorescent lighting is common, though some offices may have natural light or adjustable lighting.
- Noise Level: Varies depending on the office layout and location; could range from quiet in private offices to moderate in open-plan spaces with phone conversations and discussions.
- Sitting: Long periods of sitting at a desk/workstation.
- Computer Use: Prolonged use of computers, use of a mouse, and looking at screens
- Occasional Lifting: Light lifting of office supplies or files may be required (under 30lbs)
Pay Range: $130,000 – $150,000, depending on experience.
