Manufacturers Comment on California's new 'Scoping Plan' for carbon reduction goals
Oct. 1, 2015 California Manufacturers & Technology Association president Dorothy Rothrock made the following comments today on the California Air Resource Board's update to the state's scoping plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030:
"California manufacturers are the most efficient in the world and use clean energy to power our facilities. Keeping our industrial economy strong while reaching new goals will be a challenge but is crucial if we want to encourage the rest of the country to follow.
We appreciate that Governor Brown understands how heroic the effort must be to get to the 2030 goal and the technological breakthroughs that will be required to make it possible.
This means that California must first undertake a robust analysis of the costs and consequences to keep the state on track for GHG reductions, without emissions leakage and job loss, and to keep the economy strong by ensuring that industry can afford the technologies to make the transition.
California manufacturers also look forward to working with our legislators to address critical issues affecting the industry between now and 2020, including the ongoing implementation of the cap-and-trade program and support for programs that encourage voluntary, early actions."
