Manufacturers respond to California's important first step on economic analysis on regulations
Oct. 6, 2011 Sacramento, CA -- California Manufacturers & Technology Association President, Jack Stewart, issued the following statement today regarding Gov. Jerry Brown's signature of SB 617:
"The state's manufacturing community greatly appreciates that Gov. Brown signed SB 617 today, a bipartisan bill to ensure that we understand the cost impacts of California's major new regulations. The need for cost analysis was demonstrated perfectly today during a legislative hearing on the expensive industrial storm water runoff rules that are not required to face economic impact scrutiny. There is something wrong with that when job creation and economic growth is a high priority.
SB 617 is a positive first step toward improving the regulatory climate in the state. We urge state agencies, Governor Brown's administration and the legislature to use the cost impact information to adopt only the most cost effective regulations to achieve state goals."
