Last month, both the Assembly Select Committee on Career Technical Education and Building a 21st Century Workforce and the Senate Select Committee on Career, Technology and the New Economy held informational hearings to explore California’s progress in preparing individuals to compete in the job-market. Both committees heard updates on funding and programmatic outcomes and discussed barriers to engaging employer in the process of building the future workforce.

CMTA continues to be a leader on the issue of workforce development and in the creation of policies that focus on middle-skills training. In order for California manufacturers to remain competitive, the pathway into higher-skilled, industrial careers must be sustainable and accessible to every Californian. We cannot expect individuals to compete for 21stCentury jobs with 19thCentury skills.
