DTSC proposes to list certain paint and varnish strippers as a priority product

The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has announced its intent to list paint and varnish strippers and graffiti removers containing N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) as a Priority Product under its Safer Consumer Products Program.

DTSC argues the product-chemical combination has the potential to expose consumers and workers to NMP and such exposures have the potential to cause significant or widespread adverse impacts. DTSC has made available for public comment a Draft Product-Chemical Profile for this product-chemical combination.

Additionally, the department intends to host a public workshop regarding the draft profile in Sacramento in September. Stay tuned for additional details…
