Competing net neutrality bills moving forward in the Assembly

SB 460 by Senator Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) and SB 822 by Senator Scott Weiner (D-San Francisco) have been referred to both the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance and the Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection. The bills present two different approaches to enacting net neutrality and the Legislature will need to decide which proposal moves forward when they are heard in committee later this month.

CMTA remains concerned about the risk of proceeding with state-level proposals on net neutrality and the patchwork interstate and intrastate regulatory frameworks they will create. This fragmented system will make it difficult for internet service providers to invest in the telecommunications networks that manufacturers rely on both to manage their sophisticated production operations and to support the innovative devices they create.
