After announcing a delay in the timing to adopt the 2030 Scoping Plan Update during their February Board meeting, the Air Resources Board (ARB) has scheduled the next workshop to discuss the plan and the path toward a 40 percent below 1990 level greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target.
The workshop is set for March 28th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in Sacramento to present the 2017 Climate Change Scoping Plan Update: The Proposed Strategy for Achieving California’s 2030 Greenhouse Gas Target (Proposed Plan) and solicit stakeholder input on the Proposed Plan.
At the February hearing, Board Chair Mary Nichols announced that in response to criticism from the environmental justice community and industry representatives ARB would delay plans to adopt a final plan from the April meeting to June. With the additional time, ARB will conduct a couple more workshops to take public comments.
While this is taking place, the Legislature is continuing to debate the future of the cap-and-trade program and the outcome of that debate will weigh heavily on the pace and extent of regulatory action by ARB.
